California DROP: Delete Yourself from 600+ Brokers at Once

As of January 2026, California residents have the single most powerful removal tool in the country: DROP (Delete Request and Opt-out Platform), run by the California Privacy Protection Agency under the Delete Act.

What it does

One request goes to every data broker registered with the state — 600+ companies. From August 1, 2026, brokers must delete your data within 90 days of your request and keep honoring it going forward.

How to use it

  1. Go to privacy.ca.gov/drop and click "Get started".
  2. Verify you are a California resident via the California Identity Gateway (phone, email, address) or a login.gov account.
  3. Enter your name, address and email, review, and submit.
  4. Check back periodically — you can see which brokers have processed your deletion.

Not in California?

Colorado, Virginia, Connecticut, Texas and a growing list of states grant deletion rights you can invoke individually with each broker — our per-site guides include the links. There is no federal equivalent yet.
